Secret 4 – System and Duplication

As I mentioned in the previous section, to be successful in the MLM business you need to have an effective SYSTEM and being able to duplicate it to your whole organization. In most cases you do not need to create your own system as you can plug into the existing system of your upline organization.

In my case since my upline is from Australia and do not have a System in place, I had to take the leadership to create a SYSTEM for my organization. I had been doing it for the past 2 years. I am proud to say that we have one of the best
Support System in this region. We have plenty of tools and resources ranging from brochures, tapes, CDs, online and offline training. We have an effective online recruitment web site that sorts and follow up with prospects. These are only a small part of our arsenal of resources.

Talking about System and Duplication, you’ll be able to understand it more if you look at the franchising business. Let’s take Kentucky Chicken as an example. Colonel Sanders is no longer around but the business is still expanding worldwide. This is because of the System that is in place. Without a proper system a business or organization will not be able to grow BIG.

When we talk about SYSTEM, there are 2 things that are important. Firstly, the system must be SIMPLE. I have a friend who once applied for a fast food franchise. He was told to send someone for training to learn to cook. What is interesting is that he was told to send someone who does not know how to cook. A person who knows how to cook will have his old ways of doing things and may not fully follow the existing system – way of preparing and cooking. This brings me to an important point. When a person who is familiar with MLM decides to join a new company, he will carry with him his old habits and ways of doing things. This will be an obstacle to his success. He needs to leave his ‘old baggage’ behind and start learning new ways if he wants to succeed.

Coming back to the topic of SIMPLICITY and our KFC example, the person who does not know how to cook can cook the Kentucky Fried Chicken by following the SIMPLE System and procedures. All the chicken pieces had been cut to specification. The flour mix and other ingredients had already been prepared to specification. The temperature of the oil is fixed and so is the time to fry the chicken.

I hope that you are beginning to see the importance of having a simple system. If you wish to build a large organization, the system must be simple so that even a housewife, a student, or even a lesser educated person can follow and succeed.

The second thing about a SYSTEM is that it must be the SAME regardless of where it is being used. Again coming back to the KFC example, I hope you noticed that everything about KFC throughout the world is similar. The interior design, the color of the decoration, the logos, the staff uniform, are the same. The taste of the fried chicken is very similar…well, with some exceptions! When you walk into a KFC outlet you know for sure that it is a KFC outlet.

To build a large organization in the MLM business, you need to have a simple and similar SYSTEM wherever it is being followed.

As I said, in most cases you do not need to reinvent the wheel. Just plug into the existing system that your upline organization has. Follow the system diligently and you will reach your goal.

A SYSTEM will generally consist of these:

1. Training
2. Prospecting
3. Presentation
4. Follow Up
5. Tools and resources
6. Promotion and recruitment
7. Inspiration and self development

I hope that this section has revealed to you the importance of duplication and having a system. If in doubt, simply think of Kentucky Fried Chicken!

Cappuccino Story: Finger Lickin’ Good

He was 65 years old when he received his first social security check of $99. He was broke, and owned a small house and a beat up car. He made a decision that he has got to change. The only idea he had was a chicken recipe, which his friends liked. With that idea in mind, he took massive action. He left his home in Kentucky and traveled to many states in the US to sell his idea. He told the restaurant owners that he had a chicken recipe that people liked and he was giving it to them for free. What he wanted in return was for the restaurant owners to pay him a small percentage on the pieces of chicken sold. He got rejections after rejections, but did not give up. In fact, he got over 1000 rejections. He got 1009 no’s before he got his first yes. With that one success Colonel Harland Sanders changed the eating habits of the whole world with Kentucky Fried Chicken.

SUCCESS PRINCIPLES

Age is no barrier to success, and so is capital. What is needed is an idea put into action, followed with proper planning and persistency. How many of us will keep knocking on doors when we have received 1000 rejections? I presume not many! This is why there are not many successes like Colonel Sanders.
